Archaeology of Place

This series of panel-drawings delves into the reexamining of ancestral places, landscapes and historical narratives. These drawings are Neo-Romantic in nature, with a focus on atmospheric rendering techniques and abstraction. Archaeology of Place is an ongoing project, based on the synthesis of personal and archival photographic sources.

Charcoal drawing of a large circular structure resembling an arena with steps leading up to it. The scene appears desolate and unfinished, with two small figures in the background. The sky and surroundings are sketched in a minimalistic style.
Pencil sketch of an architectural structure, possibly a bridge, with columns and arches.

“It is a way of seeing that reveals a sense of mutual regard, where the land shapes people and people shape the land…Personal, political, and poetic, Greg’s works are meditations on the fluidity of time, on memory, place and being – on how the past functions in the present.”

Jennifer Pazienza – excerpt from the forward to Traces: Perspectives on the Past – The Art of Greg Charlton, published, 2021
